This past August, A Hand in Health partnered with Project Cure to deliver $4,000 worth of donated medical supplies to the Sulayman Junkung General Hospital for use on their summer outreach experience. 501 C3 Status!
While we are still pushing through our setbacks of last week, A Hand in Health was also given one BIG step forward. After months of planning, HIH collaborated with The Nafula Foundation to attain 501 C3 status!

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
We received some unfortunate news this week at A Hand in Health.
One of our partners in Atlanta has been working for several months to organize a container of books, donated clothing, medical supplies and bicycles to Jessibe village in Gambia. MCAD Support
Today I had the pleasure of attending the annual MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) art sale. The sale is a weekend event featuring incredibly talented student work. I went to visit the Hand in Health designer, Zamin Dharsi, and perhaps hunt for a few works of art to adorn my walls. The sale is a wonderful way to market student creations as well as support great causes.

Agnes Goes to the Capital!
I have blissfully exciting news! This past Monday, the hospital’s librarian, Agnes, was sent off to Banjul, the capital, for a month long internship at the National Library! She will be spending 4 weeks at the library, learning the dewey decimal system and how to organize and code library books. She is thrilled at the opportunity and excited to start her new internship!

Meeting with Books for Africa CEO
This past Friday, HIH director and creative head had the privilege of meeting with Mr. Pat Polonski of Books for Africa in St. Paul. While they got a bit tripped up in the crazy construction, they made it safely to discuss the future of phase 2 of their library project, 1 Million Books for Gambia.

1 Million Books for Gambia began in 2008 when A Hand in Health volunteers collaborated with CEO Kebba Badgie of the Sulayman Junkung General Hospital. Sulayman Junkung General hospital was built in 2003 on the basis that it would become a state of the art teaching hospital, incorporating students from the capital city, from all over Gambia, and, some day, from all over the world....
